Do you speak and write one of the languages taught at the Department of Translation Studies to at least C1 level? The certificates in Liaison Interpreting and Translation are a useful addition to your studies and offer a somewhat different view of the languages. (Translation: 21 ECTS, Liaison Interpreting: 20 ECTS)
New media
Information Modelling
This module bridges the gap between the humanities and cultural studies and information technology and can also be taken as a compulsory elective (supplementary subject) in individual fields of study. You will learn methods and techniques for information-technological indexing and processing of scientific sources and data, with special emphasis on forms of digital edition and subject-specific IT applications. (24 ECTS)
Media Studies
What is post digitalism and how does it affect our society? What should I look for when writing a press release? How do I recognize framing strategies in the news or in politics? How do I prepare for an interview? How can I study the effects of new media such as TikTok or Snapchat on our lives? These and many other questions and phenomena are addressed in the Media Studies supplementary subject. The subject combines theories from media and communication studies as well as digitalization research with the development of skills that are essential for media-related professions. An internship and an accompanying course round off the curriculum. The program concludes with a presentation of a scientific paper or a piece of work as part of a presentation exercise. (28.5 ECTS)

This certified module provides students with extensive theoretical knowledge in the field of U.S. cinema and television. In addition to theoretical film and cultural studies knowledge, there is a practical focus on concrete experience in the film and television industry in the USA (in the context of a film summer school), as well as a focus on the business-related levels of project management and marketing..

How "American" are "the Americas"? What socio-cultural, political or historical connections exist between the regions of North, Central and South America and the Caribbean? Students of this module can deepen their general knowledge of the double continent of the Americas, strengthen their analytical skills with regard to cultural representations of the Americas, and gain insight into fundamental issues concerning transatlantic relations. (20 ECTS)
Intermediality: Theory and Practice
While obtaining the certificate "Intermediality: Theory and Practice", you will explore the symbiotic relationship between critical thinking and creativity by studying theories of intermediality while engaging in intermedial analysis and/or practice at the same time. (21 ECTS)
Cultural Management
- Cultural Management GEWI
Jobs in the cultural sector require broad-based knowledge ranging from marketing strategies for tourism and event management to object theory. This module takes an interdisciplinary approach, combining academic and applied disciplines such as cultural theory, computer science, museology, marketing, publishing and tourism. This results in both practical relevance and professional preparation in the field of cultural management. (25-31.5 ECTS)

This is an additional qualification that takes the form of a focus within the framework of free electives (25 ECTS).

If you are interested in criminal cases, detective work and language, this certificate is for you! You will gain insight into the exciting world of Forensic Linguistics and learn how to apply the knowledge you have already acquired in a meaningful way. Forensic Linguistics deals with any type of text that is in any way related to legal matters - from the interpretation and exposition of legal texts, to speaker recognition and language profiling. This certificate, based at the Departmentes of Linguistics, English Studies, German Studies, Romance Studies and Slavic Studies, explores the connections, interfaces and mutual influence between language, cognition and society. Within the framework of this elective area, individual emphases can be set according to interest or content related to the main course of study. The certified module is open to all students at the University of Graz and is especially recommended as a supplement to all fields of study in the humanities, social sciences, education and cognitive sciences. Would you like to

The supplementary subject (restricted elective course) “Global Window”, offered exclusively at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, develops theoretical and, above all, practical knowledge, and skills in internationalisation and (inter)cultural competence. Based on a range of topics, such as mobility, multilingualism, identity, migration, flight and climate change, the course discusses interdependencies and addresses practice-oriented concepts of diversity, trans- and interculturality, digitalisation and internationalisation.
Humanities students may select “Global Window” as a supplementary subject (restricted elective course), encompassing 24 ECTS credits. The courses needed for Global Window are outlined in the respective curricula. Registration for these courses takes place via UNIGRAZonline. Mobility experiences, i.e. practical training abroad or domestic practical training with an intercultural focus, as well as courses taken abroad can be accredited for this course. Global Window will be offered on a yearly basis.

Gender & Diversity Certificate: Interdisciplinary Basic Competencies for Bachelor Students.
Categorisations that create and reinforce social inequalities permeate the work and life of everyone. By completing this certificate, you will increase your sensitivity to social diversity and inequality, practise critical questioning, strengthen your argumentation skills, and also gain an important additional qualification.
The certified module is open to all bachelor’s students at the University of Graz, consists of a compulsory and an elective area and comprises a total of 24 ECTS credits.

In addition to individually selectable free elective courses, students who opt for the KLUG module have the possibility to obtain a competence pass for the acquisition of the additional qualifications under certain conditions.
