Research profile and guiding principles
Research in the humanities at the University of Graz drives on the richness of a wide range of subjects. The "spirit" of the humanities is plural, heterogeneous and culturally manifest at all times. The objects of our research include everyday languages and historical testimonies as well as arguments, texts, (art) objects of all kinds, institutions, social formations and practices. Our methodological approach is correspondingly diverse. It includes image and conceptual analyses, semantic investigations, hermeneutic-interpretative procedures, field studies, date research and source criticism, genealogies and a variety of data collection methods.
At the Faculty of Humanities in Graz, deepening one's subject knowledge goes hand in hand with an inter/transdisciplinary approach. Crossing borders is at the centre of our focus. Structure meets topicality, and historical depth and tradition are combined with analysis and innovation.
