Planning a third-party funded project ? The faculty supports you!
Preparing and submitting larger research proposals (e.g. to FWF, FWF Joint Projects, EU, Thyssen) is time-consuming. Use the possibility of financial support to apply for your externally funded project (research projects with a funding volume of up to approx. EUR 400,000, no educational programs).
The faculty will contribute substantially to the costs of an application if the following criteria are met:
- The project proposal is being submitted to a funding agency for the first time.
- The project is intended to fund multiple researcher:ing positions.
- The project proposal is to be ready for submission in 2024.
- The project proposal is co-sponsored by the researcher´s institute/centre.
What to submit?
To be submitted (in German or English; max. 10 A4 pages in total):
A) Project description (max. 2,000 words):
1. Objectives (hypotheses or scientific question): - Reference to the relevant international scientific landscape (international state of research); - Exploration of the new scientific territory (innovative aspects); - Significance of the expected development of the field (due to the present project)
2. Methodology
3. Rough time and budget plan for the planned project (Please already consider §109 UG when planning the personnel!!)
4. Cooperations (national and international, subject of the intended cooperation)
B) Call data (funding body, program track, deadlines, ....)
C) Name of the research network and/or profile-forming area of the university to which the project is assigned and/or name of the faculty focus to which the project is assigned
D) Research achievements of the intended project leader (list of max. ten most important publications or accepted scientific publications and list of max. ten most important other research achievements, e.g. prizes, keynote lectures, research projects, ...; also see FWF application guidelines for individual projects 1.5. and 2.4., valid as of 15.3.2022).
The desired funding amount is to be submitted in a separate document or via email at the time of submission.
Which costs can (not) be applied for?
In particular, costs for personnel (temporary increases in part-time employment for max. 6 months, contracts for work), material resources (temporary license costs, costs for test subjects, etc.) and/or a teaching reduction for the summer semester 2024 (max. 4 semester hours) can be applied for.
The following costs cannot be applied for: Travel costs or expenses for guests, publications, homepages, etc.
Is a teaching reduction desired?
If a reduction in teaching (up to a maximum of 4 semester hours is possible ) is desired, consultation with the responsible curriculum commission must take place before the application is submitted. The submission by the curriculum commission of the necessary change in teaching and the decision on approval/rejection by the Dean of Studies will be made after a possible approval of the project funding.
What is the submission deadline?
Applications can be submitted by email (gewi.dekan(at)uni-graz.at) until September 22, 2023.
What is the procedure for reviewing applications?
Applications are reviewed by faculty members according to a standardized procedure. The final decision regarding the awards of funding lies with the deans and will be communicated by the end of October at the latest.
What is the requirement for reviewing an application?
A prerequisite of reviewing of the application is that the applicant or the researcher designated to lead the project has filled in his/her profile in the research portal of the University of Graz and that the research data are up-to-date.
