In the cluster Spaces of Multilingualism, Migration and Cultural Transformation the relationship between space and multilingualism is examined from sociolinguistic, didactic, cultural and translation studies perspectives. In an examination of spatial theory, space is not viewed as a mere physical backdrop for multilingual action, but rather as a complex social construct that is produced and reproduced through habitualized practices. A research perspective on spaces also focuses on the concept of the border and the associated cross-border processes and cultural transformations. The cluster examines social, institutional, cultural, political or imagined spaces of multilingualism, in which social power relations and classifications are inscribed and which are always linked to processes of temporalization.
