Day of the Humanities 2025
Between hype and critical discourse. AI in the humanities
Time: Thursday, 30 October 2025, 5 pm
Location: Festsaal Meerscheinschlössl (Mozartgasse 3, 8010 Graz)
What do the humanities have to do with AI? Humanities researchers not only use AI-based programmes, they also make important contributions to the contextualisation and development of AI applications. What would chatbots or translation programmes be without linguists and translation researchers? What impact does AI have on teaching? Who deals with the inherent bias? Who deals with the ethical limits and effects of this technological development? These include individual humanities disciplines from art history and musicology to linguistics, literary studies and philosophy.
Programme
- Opening and welcome by Rector Peter Riedler and Dean Arne Ziegler
- Short presentations by Elke Höfler (AI in teaching) and Philipp Berghofer (AI in research)
- Discussion panel with Stefan Baumgarten (ITAT), Susanne Kogler (Institute of Art and Musicology), Wolfgang Göderle (Institute of Digital Humanities) and Anja Fuchs (winner of the GEWI Prize for Theses 2025)
