Here, we have summarised the criteria you must meet for such a scholarship and how you can apply for it.
Submission deadline: 23rd September until 31st Oktober 2024
Scholarship amount and awarding principles
Upon application, performance scholarships can be awarded to students with Austrian citizenship, EEA citizens as well as stateless persons and refugees (see Amendment to the Study Support Act 1992 on the "Equal Opportunities for Foreigners and Stateless Persons"), who are enrolled in a regular degree programme at the University of Graz and have achieved outstanding academic performance in accordance with the study regulations.
-
A performance scholarship may be awarded in an amount no less than € 750 and no more than € 1,500.
-
It is awarded by the dean of studies within the framework of private administration.
-
There is no legal entitlement to a performance scholarship.
-
Awarding of a performance scholarship does not depend on the socio-economic situation of the applicant.
Guidelines for the academic year 2023/24
Stipulations applicable to all degree programmes:
- Assessment period for the academic year 2023/24: October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024
- Compliance with the entitlement period, i.e. the degree programme in question must be completed within the entitlement period (the legally stipulated study time plus one additional semester), taking into account any important reasons (§§ 18, 19 Study Support Act 1992).
Additional information: If you were registered for a degree programme in the summer semester 2020, this semester does not count towards the legally stipulated study time. In this case, the entitlement period can be exceeded by two semesters. - The applicant has consistently adhered to good academic practice during the assessment period and, in particular, has not used any unauthorised aids in examinations or written work.
The following applies to students in the bachelor's, master's and teacher training programmes:
- Proof of at least 60 positively completed ECTS credit points in the academic year 2023/24 in a degree programme must be provided. At least 50 ECTS credit points must be positively graded ("excellent" to "sufficient"), of which 10 ECTS credit points may be assessed as "successfully participated". Final theses and examinations also count, of course.
- The (weighted) grade point average of the study achievements and academic papers used for assessment according to the curriculum (of the best 50 courses with the highest grades and most ECTS credit points) may not exceed 2.0.
- All examinations taken for a degree programme during the assessment period (see above) are taken into account. The examination date on the certificate applies. In the case of recognitions, the date of the recognition notification is considered the examination date. However, examinations that were assessed in one academic year but were only recognised in the following academic year (assessment period) cannot be taken into account (with the exception of study achievements completed during a stay abroad as part of the degree programme).
- Free elective courses that were completed in the course of another degree programme (with a different degree programme code) during the assessment period and were not recognised by means of a recognition notification can be taken into account up to a maximum of 15 ECTS credit points.
The following applies to doctoral candidates:
- Completion of studies within the assessment period (see above)
- Compliance with the entitlement period (see above)
- Assessment of the doctoral thesis with the grade “excellent”
- Completion of the doctoral examination with “passed with distinction”
The following applies to supplementary degree programmes:
- The study achievements made in the course of a supplementary degree programme are taken into account in the application for the regular degree programme which it supplements (e.g. third teaching subject in the teacher training programme; third foreign language in the degree programme transcultural communication / conference interpreting; etc.).
- An application exclusively for a supplementary degree programme can only be submitted if the following requirements are met:
- Positive completion of at least 34 ECTS credit points of the supplementary degree programme within the assessment period (see above)
- Grade point average of the study achievements submitted for assessment according to the curriculum of no more than 1.5
- Compliance with the stipulated duration of the supplementary degree programmes
Where do I apply?
An application for a performance scholarship can only be submitted to one faculty. If a student is enrolled in more than one degree programme, the application must be submitted to the faculty where most ECTS credit points were earned. In any case, a scholarship will only be granted for one degree programme. The weighted grade point average is calculated based on courses of this degree programme.
In the case of degree programmes established jointly between universities (e.g., Musicology) or university colleges of teacher education (e.g. Teacher Training Programme for Secondary Level General Education), an application can only be submitted to the respective home university or university college of teacher education at which the student is primarily enrolled. A mutual recognition of courses (e.g., between the University of Graz and the University College of Teacher Education Styria) is not necessary, as examination data is exchanged automatically (exception: University of Klagenfurt).
Students studying in a teacher training programme whose teaching subjects are offered at different faculties may submit an application for a performance scholarship only once to one faculty (to the faculty of the teaching subject in which most ECTS credit points were earned). All study achievements made for the entire degree programme are of course still taken into account.
How do I apply?
The application must be submitted in the "My Performance Studentship" app in UNIGRAZonline . This app is only available in UNIGRAZonline during the application period. If electronic submission is not possible due to lack of an active student account or for any other reason, please contact the dean's office by email with the required documents.
TIn any case, the following information and documents must be submitted:
- Registration of the bank details
- Upload of the certificate of registration for the place of residence
- Passport/national ID card
If any of the following apply to you, the following documents must also be uploaded:
- If you are not an Austrian citizen, proof of belonging to the eligible group of persons (permanent residence card, etc.).
- Proof of any delays in your studies as defined in §§ 18 and 19 Study Support Act 1992.
Additional information: If you were registered for a degree programme in the summer semester 2020, this semester does not count towards the legally stipulated study time. In this case, the entitlement period can be exceeded by two semesters. - Recognition notifications, if these do not show up in UNIGRAZonline: If no grades or semester course hours are listed on the recognition notification, the respective certificate must also be uploaded. The conversion is done according to the regulations of the University of Graz. The date on the recognition notification must be within the assessment period.
- Notice of approval of an individual degree programme.
- Certificates of study achievements (transcripts) for examinations that do not show up in UNIGRAZonline.
An application is also possible if completion of studies was achieved before the end of the academic year, a current leave of absence exists or if an application for a performance scholarship at another university for another degree programme has been made.
Am I eligible to apply?
Students enrolled in regular degree programmes at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Graz who are Austrian citizens, foreigners with equal status and stateless persons are eligible to apply (see Amendment to the Study Support Act 1992 on the "Equal Opportunities for Foreigners and Stateless Persons").
The applicant must comply with the entitlement period, i.e. the degree programme in question must have completed within the entitlement period (the legally stipulated study time plus one additional semester), taking into account any important reasons (§§ 18, 19 Study Support Act 1992), and/or the applicant must still be within the entitlement period at the time of application.
Additional information: If you were registered for a degree programme in the summer semester 2020, this semester does not count towards the legally stipulated study time. In this case, the entitlement period can be exceeded by two semesters.
The applicant has consistently adhered to good academic practice and, in particular, has not used any unauthorised aids in examinations or written work.
Processing of applications
All scholarship applicants will be informed by the dean's office about acceptance or rejection (with reasons) of their application by e-mail at the latest by the end of the calendar year. Please refrain from calling or e-mailing the office regarding the decision!
If the number of applications that meet the above requirements is greater than the number of scholarships to be awarded, the applications will be ranked:
- according to the grade point average of the 50 courses with the highest grades and most ECTS credit points, and
- if necessary, according to the number of additional positively completed ECTS credit points (without taking into account the specific grades, i.e., also courses assessed as "successfully participated").
These parameters can also be taken into account, if necessary, in the amount to be awarded.
Submission of individual documents (proof of delay of study time, recognition notifications, proof of non-Austrian citizenship) at a later date is only possible in exceptional cases. In any case, a pre-requisite is the timely submission of the application via UNIGRAZonline. Decisions on any exceptional cases are made by the responsible dean of studies or vice dean of studies.
