Announcement of Subject and Supervisor(s) of a Doctoral Thesis

You have accepted the challenge and enrolled in a doctoral programme. The first step has been taken.

Next, you must inform the dean of studies and your supervisor about the subject you have chosen to write about by the end of the second semester at the latest. You will find all relevant information on how to do that here along with details on what to do if you want to change your subject or supervisor.

Required Documents

You must submit the following documents to the dean's office via email no later than by the end of the second semester of your enrolment in the doctoral programme. These documents must be signed by the supervisor(s) in advance.

  • Application for doctoral thesis subject

  • Supervision agreement

  • Written statement for your doctoral project (about 5 pages, should include the research question, the current state of research and the objective of the doctoral thesis).

Useful:

  • Possible supervisor(s) (Academic staff of the Faculty of Humanities with a teaching qualification).

  • Persons who have completed their habilitation at the Faculty of Humanities, as well as emeritus and retired academic staff with a teaching qualification.

  • Possible compulsory and elective courses for the Doctoral Programme in Philosophy.

The following documents will support you and your supervisor(s) in the work process:

  • Information about the supervision agreement

  • Documentation of supervision

A second supervisor is optional for a doctoral thesis in the Doctoral Programme of Philosophy. If you decide you would like to have a second supervisor after announcing the subject of your doctoral thesis, you will then need to submit a new supervision agreement to the dean's office via e-mail. Both supervisors must sign the supervision agreement.

Should you want to change the subject of your doctoral thesis during the course of your studies, you must announce that change using this form to the dean’s office via  e-mail. A new exposé of the doctoral project and a new supervision agreement must be attached to the form.

Should you want to change the supervisor of your doctoral thesis during the course of your studies, you must announce this change using this form to the dean’s office via e-mail. Please note that a new supervision agreement must be signed by the new supervisor and enclosed with the form. Should the subject of the doctoral thesis change along with the supervisor, a new exposé of the doctoral project must also be submitted.
