Course Examination before a Committee
If you have failed a course examination or a continuous assessment course three times, the fourth re-taking (which is your last attempt) must be made before a committee.
At this point, it is no longer possible to register for the examination or the course in UNIGRAZonline. Instead of this, you must register for your last attempt by submitting a form to the dean's office.
Please note the information listed below.
Examination attempts
You can re-take negatively assessed examinations up three times in total.
From the second re-taking (3rd examination attempt) onwards, you can request that the examination be held in the form of a one-off examination on the entire course content.
From the second re-taking onwards, you can also request that your passing of the examination also counts as having fulfilled the in-person participation requirements of a continuous assessment course.
The third re-taking (4th examination attempt) must in any case be a course examination before a committee.
Registration form and deadlines
Registration form
Please fill out the registration form and send it to the dean's office via e-mail.
Deadlines
Re-taking of final examination on the entire course: at least two weeks before the examination date.
Re-taking of a continuous assessment course: at the latest by the regular registration deadline of the course.
Type of examination
A course examination before a committee must be conducted according to the established examination method of the respective course (see course details, assessment scheme in UNIGRAZonline).
An application for a deviant method of assessment can only be approved if you can demonstrate a persistent inability to attend, thus preventing you from taking the examination in the stipulated manner and if the content and requirements of the examination are not affected by a different method of assessment.
Composition of the examination committee
You have the right to request members of the examining committee. If you need help in finding suitable members, please contact the course instructor or the office of the department.
Written examination
Make an appointment with the course instructor and obtain the signatures of three members of the examining committee. You do not need to obtain the signature of the responsible (vice) dean of studies.
Oral examination
Make an appointment with three members of the examining committee and the responsible (vice-)dean of studies and obtain all signatures.
Second-to-last examination attempt
If you wish to already take the second-to-last examination attempt as a course examination before a committee, the examining committee consists of only three members (two members and one chairperson from the department).
Continuous assessment courses
For the third and last re-taking (4th examination attempt) of a continuous assessment course, an examining committee must be appointed before attending the course, regardless of whether you repeat the continuous assessment course in full or apply for a one-off examination.
For the second re-taking (3rd examination attempt), a student can only apply for a course examination before a committee if the examination is held in the form of a one-off examination (i.e., you only take one examination instead of repeating the entire course). This must be agreed with the course instructor.
For re-taking of the entire course, the course instructor hands over all the student’s partial study achievements to the other members of the examining committee, who will then also assess them.
In any case, students must register by submitting the relevant form to the dean's office. See also "Composition of the examining committee".
Legal basis
§ 66 (4) and § 68 (1) 3 Universities Act 2002
