The erotetic and the aesthetic. How linguistics and narratology concur in accounting for narrative suspense in literature
In the project, an interdisciplinary approach (literary studies + linguistics) attempts to investigate the phenomenon of literary tension using current experimental methods. The main question of the project is: How the linguistic form of a literary text determines tension. The main hypothesis is that tension is an interpretive feature of texts. The core theoretical innovation is that we want to use the erotetic structure of texts together with hierarchical Bayesian models for the analysis of tension.
