Funding for travel expenses for early career researchers
So that nothing stands in the way of your participation in a conference (with an active contribution directly related to your dissertation or doctoral studies) - the Faculty of Humanities awards travel grants for doctoral students and thus supports your qualification and further career steps.
Who can apply for this funding, what is (not) funded and how the application and selection process works can be found below.
What can be supported?
Travel and accommodation expenses as well as participation fees for participation in academic events that are directly related to the dissertation or doctoral studies at the Faculty of Humanities.
An active contribution (presentation, moderation, chair ...) is required. Participation with a poster is not sufficient. Within the scope of this call for applications, a grant can only be applied for one trip per applicant.
What cannot be funded?
Costs for catering, printing or publication costs, costs for accompanying persons, participation in a scientific event without active contribution or poster contribution only
Who can apply?
All students pursuing a registered doctoral programme at the Faculty of Humanities as well as students in the doctoral programme in Didactics whose first supervisor is a habilitated member of the Faculty of Humanities are eligible to apply. The student must be a registered member of one of the listed doctoral programmes (see: https://gewi.uni-graz.at/en/research/structured-doctorate/).
The period of the trip and the stay must not be after the completion of the degree programme, nor may there be an employment relationship with the University of Graz at the same time (with the exception of an employment contract as a lecturer with a maximum of 2 SWS). The event must take place by the end of June 2026.
Application
- Submission of an informal application by e-mail to gewi.dekan(at)uni-graz.at no later than 2 months before the start of the trip
- Information on the event and the active contribution (schedule, cost plan, program of the event and/or invitation letter if available, web link, etc.) and justification of the connection with the dissertation / doctoral studies
- Proof of registered studies and membership in a doctoral program
- Endorsement of participation by a supervisor of the dissertation
The approved grant will be refunded after settlement.
Selection procedure
The selection committee (faculty management of the Faculty of Humanities) will decide within 4 weeks whether to accept or reject funding and the amount of the grant (maximum 1,500 euros). There is no entitlement to funding. As soon as the available funds have been used up, information will be sent to the habilitated members of the Faculty and the information on the call for applications will be removed from the Faculty's website.
