Eps. III: The strong heart of Styria
Successful, stable companies are the heart of a business location. But how strong is the beating heart of Styria? What factors lead to a company being 100 years old or older and why do some companies even emerge stronger from a crisis?
There are many companies in Styria that have been in existence for many decades. These companies are not only important because of their durability, but they are also considered part of Styria's cultural heritage. To date, there is no complete list of these companies. The project "Roots for the future. Styrian traditional companies as a location factor and cultural heritage", funded by theprovinceofStyria, aims to change this. The aim is to record the tradition and important characteristics of the Styrian economy. After all, the experiences of these companies not only characterise the identity of the individual companies, but also that of the entire region. Documenting all companies that still exist today and can look back on a history of over 100 years is an important step towards defining the identity of Styria. A database will be created as part of the project, which will then be made available to the public as a digital reference work.
This exciting and practical project is being led by historian Walter Iber (Institute of History) and his colleague Thomas Krautzer (Institute of Economic, Social and Business History). In the third episode of our podcast, the two provide insights into their interdisciplinary, practical research project as well as one or two tips for successful corporate management.
