This project shows how the cosmovision factor has been and continues to be largely neglected in translation studies. It examines how Eugene Nida's theories of translation were shaped by his involvement in the missionary Summer Institute of Linguistics and how current programs of study at Western institutions can take into account cosmovision-related characteristics of indigenous translators and interpreters.
