Habilitation - Getting your Teaching Qualification
Are you are thinking about habilitation?
The prerequisite for awarding of a habilitation degree ‒ the qualification for a teaching career in higher education ‒ is proof of outstanding scientific or artistic qualifications and experience of teaching several times at recognised post-secondary educational institutions to demonstrate the teaching skills of the habilitation candidate.
Application
The application must be submitted to the dean's office along with all required documents. Please arrange a submission date with the responsible person at the Dean's Office.

The submitted habilitation thesis must
- be conducted in a methodologically sound manner,
- contain new scientific results, and
- demonstrate scholarly mastery of the habilitation subject and the ability to advance it.
Legal basis
The rectorate shall, on application, be entitled to award a habilitation degree (venia docendi) for an entire academic or artistic subject. The venia docendi applied for must be within the sphere of action of the university. The habilitation degree shall confer the right to the free exercise thereof at the university in question, using its facilities, and to the supervision and assessment of academic theses or art submissions (§§ 81 to 83 and 124) (§ 103 (1) Universities Act 2002).
