The additional qualifications bearing the logo of Graz University  are open to students of all faculties of the University of Graz.
Students of the faculty (GEWI, SOWI, REWI, etc.) or the institute indicated in each case can obtain additional qualifications with restricted access.

Is Bosnian/Croat/Serbian a language you often hear in everyday life (bus, street, university)? And are you interested in the intricacies of Bosnian, Croat, Montenegrin and Serbian-speaking societies? Dobryj den! Russian is a global language that is spoken in many different countries. You can study this language and culture intensively in small groups and acquire important additional qualifications for your professional career. (basic level: 21.5 ECTS, advanced level: 20 ECTS)

With us, you can study in small groups for a personal and intensive learning approach to Slovenian language and culture. Gain an additional qualification to enhance your job opportunities in the field of business, tourism, journalism and culture! (basic level: 27-28 ECTS, advanced level: 17.5-18.5 ECTS)

We teach linguistic and cultural competences needed for the development of intercultural relations in small, exclusive groups that allow for intensive, personalised learning. By offering this additional qualification, we hope to prepare you for an exciting and varied career path, e.g. in international businesses, in tourism or in international cultural and educational exchange institutions. (basic level: 27 ECTS, advanced level: 22 ECTS)

Are you interested in the Hungarian language and culture? Would you like to get an additional qualification to stand out from the crowd? With this certificate, you acquire language skills as well as knowledge about culture, politics, society, history, media, tourism and economy, which will increase your job opportunities throughout Europe. Would you like to acquire an additional qualification as part of your language and literature studies? Are you proficient at level C1 acc. to CEFRL in one of the languages taught at ITAT? The certificates “Dialogue interpreting" and “Translation" provide a useful supplement to your studies and offer a somewhat different perspective on languages. (translation: 21 ECTS, interpreting: 20 ECTS)

Digital Science
Information technology is an indispensable part of science and research. The use of computers not only offers new possibilities and research methods but has also fundamentally changed science itself. In this module, you will learn more about the relationship between electronic media and science, discuss issues of IT law, media literacy and digital knowledge representation, and get to know the possibilities of utilising IT in your area of expertise. (24 ECTS)
 
Information ModellingArts & Humanities
This module bridges the gap between humanities and information technology and can also be completed as a restricted elective course (supplementary course) in individual fields of study. You will get to know the methods and techniques of information technology development and processing of scientific sources and data, with particular emphasis on forms of digital editing and subject-specific IT applications. (24 ECTS)
 
Media Science
Whether you are interested in radio, film or print media ‒ professionals in their field provide you with in-depth knowledge which you will present to a renowned expert jury during your final presentation. (28.5 ECTS)

General and Comparative LiteratureArts & Humanities
This certificate is designed for students of master’s and doctoral programmes who are interested in literature, questions of interpretation, media relations, and the impact and evaluation of texts. The offered module provides a meaningful structuring of the free elective courses and, furthermore, offers an additional qualification for students of all language and literature studies.
 
American Film and Television Studies
This certificate programme provides students with extensive theoretical knowledge in the field of US cinema and television. In addition to theoretical film and cultural studies competences, this programme offers a practical focus which involves concrete experiences in the film and television industry of the USA (as part of a film summer school), as well as economic levels of project management and marketing.
 
Contemporary Arts and Culture (only in German)
Contemporary Arts and Culture is an inter-university certificate programme between the University of Graz, the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and the Graz University of Technology within the Short-Term Mobility framework in Graz. In each of the six courses, an annual theme is considered from different perspectives. Students of master’s / doctoral programmes not only benefit from pure knowledge gain, but also strengthen their ability to think, discuss and research on an interdisciplinary basis. (6 courses á 2 hours)
 
Inter-American Cultural Studies (only in German)Arts & Humanities, Business, Economics & Social Sciences
How "American" are "the Americas"? Which socio-cultural, political or historical connections exist between the regions of North, Central and South America and the Caribbean? Students of this module deepen their general knowledge of the Americas, strengthen their analytical skills in cultural representation of the Americas, and gain insight into key issues of transatlantic relations. (20 ECTS)
 
Intermediality: Theory and PracticeArts & Humanities
While obtaining the certificate “Intermediality: Theory and Practice”, you will explore the symbiotic relationship between critical thinking and creativity by studying theories of intermediality and engaging in intermedia analysis and/or practice at the same time. (21 ECTS)
 
Cultural Management GEWI
If you are interested in business and work around culture, our "Cultural Management ‒ Applied Cultural Sciences" certificate offers in-depth knowledge on cultural theory, cultural policy, museology, tourism and publishing as well as knowledge in the field of business administration or computer science. In a wide range of courses, you acquire broad knowledge in theory and practice for a possible career in cultural management. (25-31.5 ECTS)

Normativity and Responsibility
What does it mean to believe or feel, to do something, to have reasons for actions, assumptions and emotions? What are we responsible for as individuals? Which rights and obligations do we have? How should we act? These and many other questions are examined in this certificate focusing on normativity and responsibility, either as a supplement to the master's programme in philosophy or as an elective subject for many other master's or diploma programmes. (24 ECTS)

Phenomenology and Analytic Philosophy (only in German)Philo
For almost the entire 20th century, phenomenology and analytic philosophy were considered as contrary theoretical traditions. The former was associated with intuition, the analysis of meaning and subject theory, while the latter was connected to logic, language and conceptual analysis. Recently, a more differentiated view has emerged, promoting active exchange. This certificate offers a specialisation in phenomenology and, in the process, will familiarise students with the productivity of such an argument. (20-28 ECTS)

History of Science and Philosophy of Science (only in German)Arts & Humanities, Natural Sciences
Science and technology influence our society to an unimaginable degree. This fact poses great challenges to the arts and humanities, especially philosophy or history, but also to the individual sciences concerned. This certificate gives students of humanities and natural sciences the opportunity to examine the social, historical and theoretical conditions around the acquisition of scientific knowledge from an interdisciplinary perspective. (24 ECTS)

Jewish Studies - History of Jewish Cultures (only in German)Arts & Humanities, Catholic Theology & Social Sciences
For bachelor and master students of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, Catholic Theology and Social Sciences who are interested in the culture, religion, literature and history of Judaism since the European Enlightenment and its cultural, political, religious and social transformation processes. This certificate is an additional qualification in the form of a specialisation within the framework of the elective courses. (25 ECTS)

 

Forensic Linguistics Arts & Humanities, Law

If you are interested in criminal cases, detective work and language, this certificate is for you! You will get an insight into the exciting world of forensic linguistics and learn how to apply your already acquired knowledge in a meaningful way. Forensic Linguistics deals with any kind of text that is in any way related to legal matters - from the interpretation and interpretation of legal texts to speaker recognition and language profiling. (24 ECTS)
